UNM-Gallup to host literary reading, open mic night

GALLUP, N.M. 鈥 The University of New 91福利导航-Gallup Zollinger Library will host a reading event and open mic night in celebration of the release of the 2022 edition of the branch campus鈥 literary arts journal.
The 鈥淩ed Mesa Review鈥 2022 Release Celebration is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, in the Zollinger Library atrium. The event will feature readings of short fiction, poetry and essays published in the 2022 edition. The event will also feature an open mic for anyone who would like to read their works.
鈥淲e would like contributors to read but we also will have an open mic,鈥 UNM-Gallup Associate Professor of English Dr. Carmela Lanza said. 鈥淪o bring your writing and share with everyone. I hope to see everyone there.鈥
Light refreshments will be served during the event, which is free and open to the public.
The latest digital edition of 鈥淩ed Mesa Review鈥 is available online to read, and the physical version is expected to be released soon.
鈥淩ed Mesa Review鈥 features poetry, short fiction and essays by various authors and voices in the West Central Plateau and Four Corners region.
鈥淩eaders will discover a range of experiences and emotions,鈥 Lanza said of the latest edition. 鈥淚 hope they enjoy reading the issue. Perhaps they will feel inspired to contribute in future issues.鈥
鈥淩ed Mesa Review鈥 is also still accepting submissions for the 2023 edition until April 1.
Writers can submit:
- One to three poems.
- One to three pieces of short fiction (including poetry and short stories) 鈥 3,500 words maximum.
- One to three essays (including memoir and creative nonfiction) 鈥 3,500 words maximum.
Submissions must be sent in a Word document via email to tmclaren@unm.edu. The subject line should read Red Mesa Review_Last Name_First Name. The email must include the author鈥檚 name, personal statement, submission category and contact information, including email and phone number.
Lanza, who is one of the editors of the 鈥淩ed Mesa Review鈥 Collective, encourages anyone from the Four Corners region 鈥 not just UNM-Gallup students, faculty and staff 鈥 to submit work for the 2023 edition.
Lanza said the collective is also open to anyone who wants to get involved in the editing and production of the literary arts journal.
